PROGRESO — Customs officers arrested an Elsa man after seizing more than 39 pounds of methamphetamine Saturday afternoon.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection found the meth hidden beneath a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck's bedliner, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court.

The 21 bundles of drugs tested positive for methamphetamine, the complaint states.

Officers turned the truck's driver, Reynaldo Mares, to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for questioning.

Mares, 24, made an initial appearance Monday in U.S. District Court in McAllen. He remains in federal custody.
