Ariz. House OKs bill on consular cards
Ariz. House OKs bill on consular cards
Associated Press - April 18, 2011 10:44 PM ET
PHOENIX (AP) - A bill approved by the Arizona House would prohibit state officials from accepting consular identification cards issued by any foreign government as a valid form of identification.
The measure passed 31-29, with one lawmaker not voting.
Those that oppose the bill say though the measure has nothing to do with a person's immigration status, the bill would hamper law enforcement.
They say that's because the measure wouldn't allow the use of a consular card for public safety circumstances, such as to identify a body.
