Suspect was trying to flee to Mexico

BROWNSVILLE - An alleged felon wanted by ICE tried to avoid authorities by swimming across Mexico. After yelling obscenities and cheering his apparent success, Alejandro Martinez Tenorio realized he was still in Brownsville.

Customs and Border Patrol agents swarmed the 37-year-old and arrested him.

The incident started when a deputy constable first spotted the wanted man. The constable tried to get Tenorio to pull over. Instead, Tenorio led police on a chase that lasted eight miles. It was all caught on tape.

It appears Tenorio was headed towards the Veterans International Bridge and then towards the Rio Grande River. He swerved over the caliche road, crossed over a levee and then jumped out of his truck to make a run for it.

That's where the dash cam ends.

But Constable Abel Gomez tells us what happens next. He says Tenorio jumped into a sand pit and swam across.

Gomez tells us Tenorio made it out of the water and started yelling obscenities, shouting, and cheering about his successful attempt to make it across the river.

Seconds later, authorities surrounded him and he realized he was still in the United States.

Tenorio is at the Carrizales-Rucker jail. His bond has been set at $17,000.
