Law enforcement officials found more than $485,000 in a vehicle a police officer pulled over for a traffic violation Thursday.

A McAllen police officer stopped a blue Chevrolet truck about 6 p.m. Thursday at the 1400 block of West Trenton Road, according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department.

After receiving consent to search the truck, officers found several bundles of U.S. money. The Drug Enforcement Administration has taken over the investigation.

The driver has been released, but the investigation is ongoing, said Will Glaspy, who is in charge of the DEA's McAllen office.
