Permian High School Basketball Player in the U.S. Illegally

ODESSA - A Permian High star basketball player has been living in West Texas illegally, that's according to an initial investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It turns out an email to school officials spring boarded the investigation into 16-year-old Jerry Joseph's immigration status.
It all started with an anonymous email Tuesday which prompted school officials to look into Jerry Joseph's immigration status.
A few days later, the school district decided they had to get ICE involved, and after a brief investigation the agency notified the district that the Haitian ball player was here illegally.
But agents are allowing the young man to remain in Odessa. They made Permian basketball Coach Danny White his guardian until his immigration hearing.
According to the district, this doesn't change Joseph's living arrangements because he's lived with the coach this entire school year.
A date for Joseph's immigration hearing has not been set, but school officials say the sophomore will continue to attend classes at Permian.
According to Texas law, no school can deny enrollment to a child whether they're here legally or not.
