San Antonio police arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of injuring two officers late Saturday night when he led a chase through an East Side neighborhood while allegedly intoxicated.

Jorge Salinas-Cabrera is set to be booked in Bexar County Jail on several charges, including evading arrest in a vehicle, evading arrest on foot, driving while intoxicated with an open container, resisting transportation and failure to identify. His bond was set at $6,500.

An incident report states that a police officer working traffic on foot near the Alamodome was nearly struck by Salinas-Cabrera, who was driving a blue Ford Focus.

The report states the officer then saw Salinas-Cabrera drive the wrong way on several streets before he nearly struck a second officer who also was on foot.

The second officer tried to stop Salinas-Cabrera by waving an orange flashlight at the vehicle, but the suspect sped up.

Both officers then began to chase Salinas-Cabrera in their vehicles until they reached the 600 block of South Pine Street, where the suspect parked, got out of the car and started to run, the report states.

Both officers sustained injuries to their hands as they tried to handcuff Salinas-Cabrera, who reportedly smelled of alcohol and was verbally abusive. The report states police found an open, half-full 20-ounce can of Natural Light beer in the car.

Salinas-Cabrera reportedly continued to be combative and fight officers, who found his voter registration card from Mexico but no valid driver license. He was taken to police headquarters, where he cursed at police and refused to give a breath sample, police said. A witness at the house on Pine Street where the suspect parked told police they had hosted a party and Salinas-Cabrera had several alcoholic beverages before he drove away, and “did not want to get caught by police because he is in the country illegally.â€
