TX: Sampling of crimes from police reports

McAllen: Police are searching for a 24-year-old man on suspicion of evading arrest, auto theft and engaging in organized crime, McAllen police officials said.

The suspect is Carlos Alberto Montelongo-Puente, whose last known location was Reynosa. He is accused of stealing vehicles and driving them to Mexico.

Police said they arrested other suspects in connection with these crimes and took confessions that indicated Montelongo-Puente worked for a Mexican auto theft ring connected to drug cartels. Investigators learned from these suspects that the vehicles were being used for drug and illegal alien smuggling.

Montelongo-Puente is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 250 pounds. Anyone with information about him is asked to call McAllen Crime Stoppers at (956) 687-8477.

Palmview: Police continue to search for a man whom they say threatened officers with an assault rifle early Wednesday morning.

Jose Salgado, 35, allegedly brandished an AK-47 and started yelling at officers just before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Agua Dulce and Hidalgo Streets, just north of Expressway 83.

Police were responding to a complaint of loud music in the area, Palmview police Lt. Lenny Sanchez said.

The officers left the area until backup could arrive. But when they returned, Salgado was gone.

A municipal court judge issued a warrant for Salgado’s arrest on charges of aggravated assault of a public servant.

Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Palmview Crime Stoppers at (956) 584-8477.

Mission: Officers arrested a man caught flushing cocaine down the toilet as SWAT team members raided his home Tuesday.

Investigators believe Jaime Guerrero had been storing narcotics in his home on the 1000 block of Hollyfield Street, Mission police Sgt. Martin Garza said.

But as police stormed his home about 8:30 a.m., they found only enough cocaine for personal use.

The exact amount of drugs and cash seized remains unclear.

Guerrero will face charges of possession of a controlled substance, Garza said.

La Villa: A 23-year-old sugar mill worker was killed in an industrial accident Monday night, Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies said.

Jose Hernandez was working at the mill in La Villa when he fell from a scaffold.

Investigators believe Hernandez struck his head on a pipe as he fell.

The injured worker managed to call 9-1-1 but later died.

Hidalgo: Officers arrested a man at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge after he failed to declare the $155,053 he was carrying across the border, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

On Monday, officers arrested 46-year-old Luis Eduardo Muñoz-Vallejo. Officers found 15 packages of U.S. currency hidden in the Mexican national’s 2002 Nissan Sentra. The officers said a routine examination revealed irregularities in the car’s dashboard. Further examination revealed the money.

Authorities charged Munoz-Vallejo with bulk cash smuggling and placed him in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The vehicle was seized, and Munoz-Vallejo remains in custody.
