HAYS COUNTY, Texas -- A man who allegedly beat a woman and left her near a dumpster is now charged with murder after his victim died of her injuries about a month after the incident.

Jaime Beltran Granados, 22, was originally charged with aggravated robbery after Katie Mayfield, 32, was found severely beaten in San Marcos on April 21.

According to an affidavit, Mayfield was seen getting into a car with Granados, but never made it home. An investigation led officials to Granados, and he was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery.

Mayfield was taken to University Medical Center where she died on May 23 from her injuries. On May 29, the Hays County Sheriff's Office charged Granados with murder, a first degree felony.

Granados is in the Hays County Jail on a bond of $1.15 million. Family told KVUE last month that he is originally from Mexico. He now has a detainer placed on him by Immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
