Undocumented immigrants detained

CUERO - Four undocumented immigrants were detained Monday morning following a traffic stop that began on U.S. Highway 183 north of the city limits.

"Two trucks pulled out in front of me and I tried to stop them for speeding," said John Oglesby, DeWitt County Sheriff's Office chief deputy. "I got one of them stopped on Esplanade Street in Cuero. As I was going on into town, I saw the other truck had pulled over and had its hood up like it was having engine trouble. So I checked them, too. They were also undocumented."

The trucks had South Carolina license plates and were headed south, the chief deputy said.

"They said they had been working and were returning to Mexico," Oglesby said.

The men were turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
