FRIENDSWOOD — An illegal immigrant wanted for a 1993 Travis County murder was arrested in Friendswood last week, Friendswood police said Sunday.

The arrest came during a traffic stop late Thursday night, but it wasn’t until Sunday that Travis County authorities confirmed to Friendswood police the man they had in custody was wanted for murder in central Texas.

Luis Reyes, 42, was stopped in the 5100 block of FM 528 at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday and was charged with drunken driving after failing a field sobriety test, Friendswood police said in a news release.

Reyes did not have identification on him and reportedly provided police with several different spellings of his name.

As police checked to confirm his identity, they confirmed with Travis County authorities that Reyes was an alias for Ismael Manasrra, who is wanted for a 1993 murder in Travis County.

Reyes/Manasrra was being held on $100,000 bond in the Galveston County jail and was awaiting extradition to Travis County, police said.

Officials in Travis County could not be reached for details of the 17-year-old murder case.
