A Matamoros woman was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge after she attempted to enter the country driving an automobile with nine pounds of cocaine, said an agency press release.

The arrest took place Tuesday afternoon when 28-year-old Georgina Gonzalez Garza drove a red 2005 Volkswagen Jetta to an inspection booth and was referred to a secondary inspection area, CBP said.

At the inspection area field operations officers noticed discrepancies to the vehicle's dashboard area and upon further inspection discovered eight packages. The packages contained more than nine pounds of cocaine with a street value of $665,000, the release said.

Garza was arrested by CBP and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents.

She was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, court documents said.
