Yuma, Arizona (CBS Newspath) - US border patrol agents are using new technology to protect the US-Mexico border, including blimp-like aircrafts called tethered aerostats.

First developed for use in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the so-called Eyes in the Sky can detect drones up to 200 miles away and easily spot people or vehicles crossing the border illegally.

The ‘Tars’ system isn’t just used to monitor the U-S border with Mexico. Blimps are also stationed in the Florida Keys and Puerto Rico, to help keep an eye out for suspicious activity in both the air and on the water.
