U.S. Bank reaching out to potential Latino customers
Chris Casacchia
The Business Journal
U.S. Bank officials will visit the Mexican Consulate Office in Phoenix on Saturday to provide information to Valley Latinos who want to open a bank account.
Representatives from the Mexican government also will be on hand to assist visitors who want to obtain a passport or Matricula Consular, Mexico's identification card.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Consulate Office, located at 1990 W. Camelback Road, Suite 110.
Spanish-speaking bankers will be on hand to offer specific information for the Latino community.
"People who are new to the American financial system will find the assistance of U.S. Bank to be a valuable and important step to a healthy financial future," said multicultural sales and service manager Izzy Gonzalez.
U.S. Bank was one of the first financial companies in the country to accept the Matricula Consular as a valid form of identification to open an account.
In addition, the Minneapolis-based company offers a Spanish-language Web site with information on banking products and services for individuals and small businesses. The site also identifies branches with Spanish speaking tellers and bankers.
U.S. Bank also offers two money transfer services, including MoneyGram
and U.S. Bank Secure Money Transfer, an ATM card-based service designed to send money to Mexico.
The bank also offers a mortgage program called American Dream and a special small business loan program called Capital!, which is offered in conjunction with the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
U.S. Bank, a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), holds $209 billion in assets and is the sixth-largest financial holding company in the U.S.
U.S. Bank operates 45 branches in Maricopa County, according to The Business Journal's 2006 Book of Lists.

I thought there were laws against helping illegals commit their crime?

That doesn't apply when a company can make a profit from it.

I thought there were laws against racial preference. Discrimination? Aren't we all created equal?
