U.S. Border Patrol Apprehends Two Wanted Sex Offenders

Mobile, Ala. – U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended two men this week wanted on charges stemming from sexual offences.

On Wednesday, Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Mobile station encountered a subject at the Mobile Greyhound Bus Station. The subject was identified as Hermenegildo Hernandez, a native and citizen of Mexico illegally present in the U.S. Agents discovered the man is a wanted fugitive from Maryland. Hernandez has an outstanding warrant for sexual abuse of a minor issued by Prince Georges County, Maryland. He was turned over to the Mobile County Sheriff's Department to await extradition to Maryland.

Today, Mobile station agents encountered Silvestre Chavez-Gonzalez along with four other undocumented aliens. The subjects were apprehended and transported to the Mobile station for processing. During processing it was revealed that Chavez has an outstanding warrant out of Gwinnett County Georgia, for a probation violation relating to a conviction for enticing a child for indecent purposes. Chavez was turned over to the Mobile County Sheriff's Department for extradition. The four other undocumented aliens were processed for removal and detained at Baldwin County Jail.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
