U.S. Border Patrol Arrests Three Convicted Felons in 24 Hours

    (Wednesday, May 20, 2009)

Tucson, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Tucson Sector continue protecting the community by keeping unwanted criminals off of our streets. Over the past twenty-four hours agents have arrested three individuals with major criminal records.

Agents from the Douglas Border Patrol Station arrested a male Salvadoran National Tuesday when it was discovered that he was illegally in the United States. Utilizing the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Index System (IAFIS), records checks revealed that the subject was arrested and convicted in New York City for Rape Incapable of Consent and Sexual Misconduct. The man pleaded guilty to both charges and was later emoved from the United States.

Also on Tuesday, agents from the Tucson Border Patrol Station arrested a male Mexican National illegally in the United States. Through the use of IAFIS, records checks revealed that the subject was convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter in June of 2002 and was removed from the United States in August of 2007.

Later that same day agents from the Tucson Border Patrol Station arrested a male Guatemalan National near Arivaca, after they discovered he was illegally present in the United States. Through the use of IAFIS it was verified that the subject had been convicted of Second Degree Child Molestation in 2003, and sentenced to seven years in prison in Providence, Rhode Island.

Division Chief John Fitzpatrick stated, “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are on the job every day doing their best to secure our nation’s borders and improving the quality of life in border communities by keeping criminals off the streets.â€

This bigger question remains, how many illegal alien criminals and future criminals crossed the border undetected over that same 24 hour period?
