U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter (06/29/2011)

Border Patrol agents seized over 13,023 pounds of marijuana, 227 pounds of cocaine, and 3.3 pounds of methamphetamine. Agents arrested 10 criminal aliens and 14 gang members. There were 8 rocking incidents.

Reported on June 23, 2011


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 11 illegal aliens from Mexico near Ocotillo, California. The subjects claimed to have been robbed in Mexico by three bandits wearing masks and armed with a revolver. The case was referred to the proper authorities.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Laredo, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near North Miami, Florida. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, including prior convictions for domestic violence, carrying a concealed weapon, and cocaine possession.


New Orleans Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Mobile, Alabama. Record checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest issued in the state of Maryland for sexual abuse of a minor.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,249 pounds of marijuana, a tractor- trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureños gang. Records checks revealed the subject a prior conviction for importation of marijuana and had been previously removed from the United States.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Riviera Beach, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Oregon for rape and was a registered sex offender.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,113 pounds of marijuana near Rio Grande City, Texas. Agents followed the foot sign of suspected contraband smugglers to an abandoned trailer house and observed the marijuana in plain view.


San Diego Sector – A Border Patrol agent assigned to the Station reported that an on-duty agent was assaulted with rocks while attempting to arrest a group of suspected illegal aliens near San Diego, California. When the agent approached the group, they fled towards Mexico and other unidentified subjects began throwing rocks at the agent. The agent engaged his attackers with a pepperball launching system and they broke off their attack. At that time, a second group of subjects began assaulting the agent with rocks. The agent again deployed his pepperball launching system and the attackers retreated into Mexico without further incident.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Pisinemo, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Norteño 14 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.

New Orleans Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Mobile, Alabama. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for probation violation and a prior conviction in the state of Georgia for enticing a child for indecent purposes. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 227 pounds of cocaine near Escobares, Texas. Agents observed several subjects carrying bundles of suspected narcotics on the bank of the Rio Grande River. When agents approached, the subjects abandoned the bundles and absconded into Mexico. Agents searched the bundles and discovered they contained bricks of cocaine.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3.3 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested a USC near Calexico, California. The narcotics were discovered taped to the subject’s legs.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Madero, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the MS-13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Georgia for sexual battery and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. The subject, in an attempt to evade agents, fell into distress while swimming across the American Canal. Agents were able to pull the subject to safety and take him into custody.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,099 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Elfrida, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for carrying a loaded firearm and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 241 pounds of marijuana, a pickup truck, and arrested a USC near Calexico, California. Agents were notified of an ultralight aircraft incursion and responded to the suspected drop zone, where they encountered the USC and the pickup truck loaded with bundles of marijuana.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,247 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,135 pounds of marijuana and a Ford van near La Rosita, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading bundles of suspected narcotics into the vehicle near the Rio Grande River. When agents approached, the subjects abandoned the vehicle containing the marijuana and absconded to Mexico.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,745 pounds of marijuana and recovered a stolen Chevrolet Suburban near Kaka, Arizona. The vehicle containing the marijuana was discovered abandoned in the desert.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued an illegal alien from Honduras and seized 308 pounds of marijuana near Brackettville, Texas. Agents were interdicting suspected narcotics backpackers when one subject jumped into an irrigation canal to evade arrest. It was immediately apparent the subject could not swim. An agent jumped into the canal and rescued the subject with the assistance of other agents. The subject was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released into Border Patrol custody. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Centro, California. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the MS-13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for distribution of marijuana and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Antonio, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest issued in the state of Texas for sexual assault of a child.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Victoria, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Texas for driving while intoxicated and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 4,886 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the load. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near North Komelik, Arizona. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Mara 18 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest issued in the state of Texas for homicide and had been previously removed from the United States.
