U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (07/28/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 4,565 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested 11 criminal aliens and 5 gang members. There was one rocking incident.

Reported on July 22, 2010


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents assisted local law enforcement officers with a fatal hit-and-run accident near El Paso, Texas. The agents received information from witnesses regarding the suspect, who hit a pedestrian and fled from the scene. Agents detained the man until local authorities arrived.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for rape and burglary, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Ecuador near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant for rape and sexual abuse issued in the state of New York.

Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Israel near Lynden, Washington. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,505 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer, and a search by agents revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had multiple convictions for sex offenses in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an abandoned duffel bag containing 1,085 rounds of assorted ammunition, 10 magazines, and a handgun holster near Escobares, Texas. Agents witnessed several subjects making an illegal entry into the United States, and as agents approached the area the subjects dropped the duffel bag and fled south into Mexico.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tat Momoli, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of Arizona, had a prior conviction for aggravated assault, and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Norteño gang member. Records checks revealed he had an active arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance in the state of California and a prior conviction for assault in the state of Oregon. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and seized two bundles of marijuana near Stanfield, Arizona. Agents received information that subjects wearing ski masks were on horseback in the desert area, and were carrying rifles and the narcotics. When agents effected the arrest, no weapons were found.

Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued five Canadian citizens from a sinking vessel near Youngstown, New York. The agents took two adults and three children aboard their Border Patrol vessel and transported them to a U.S. Coast Guard Station. The 24-foot vessel sank into Lake Ontario.


Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 20,900 rounds of 9mm and .223 caliber ammunition, a 1996 Toyota Corolla, and arrested a USC following a vehicle stop near Eagle Pass, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted he intended to smuggle the ammunition into Mexico.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,888 pounds of marijuana, a Ford pickup, a homemade tank trailer, and arrested a national of Mexico at the traffic checkpoint Freer, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the tank, and a physical search uncovered the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual battery in the state of Indiana, and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued a motorist in distress after his tractor-trailer was swept away in a flash flood near Columbus, New Mexico. Agents waded into the flood waters and extracted the motorist from the conveyance to a safe location. The subject was transported to a temporary medical facility where he was treated by emergency medical services for a diabetic condition.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Casa Grande, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual solicitation of a child in the state of Delaware, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 172 pounds of marijuana, $7,411, a loaded firearm, a Ford Focus, and arrested a USC near Tombstone, Arizona. While being questioned at a traffic checkpoint, the subject abruptly drove off and was stopped by agents a short distance from the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana, the firearm, and drug paraphernalia.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents responded to a 911 call indicating that three persons were in physical distress northwest of Ocotillo, California. Agents and Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine air assets responded to the area and rescued three illegal aliens from Mexico who were suffering from dehydration.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member and records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sunland Park, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC after it was discovered he was harboring illegal aliens in his residence near Socorro, Texas. During questioning, the subject admitted to being an Tango gang member.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.
