SANTA CRUZ, CA
Accused killer pleads not guilty

A Santa Cruz man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend last month pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday to charges of murder and using a weapon.
He will be back in court Oct. 25 for a preliminary hearing.

Wensy Sanchez, 39, is accused of killing Juli Entwistle, 41, in the couple's Morrissey Boulevard apartment early on July 24. Neighbors tried to stop the savage attack, but Sanchez allegedly plunged a large kitchen knife through her neck, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sanchez was arrested at the apartment shortly after the violence. Entwistle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sanchez is being held in County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail. He has told police he is not a U.S. citizen and investigators have said Sanchez has a fraudulent Social Security number.
