U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter, Blaine Sector May 31 – June 6

Blaine, Wash. – The information listed below is from arrests and seizures related to the U.S. Border Patrol in the Blaine Sector area of operations. For security reasons, this may not be a complete list of enforcement actions.

06/02/2012- Sumas Border Patrol agents responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a subject on foot in close proximity to the United States/Canada international border near Lynden, Washington. Agents responded and contacted a subject matching the description given by the caller. The subject admitted to being a citizen of Canada illegally present in the United States. The individual had a previous criminal history in Canada including arrests for theft and narcotics. The individual was placed under arrest and processed for removal.

06/03/2012- Port Angeles Border Patrol agents responded to a request for assistance from the Clallam County Sheriff's Office for an ongoing manhunt. The Clallam County Sheriff's Office was searching for a subject who had allegedly invaded a home near Port Angeles and murdered one occupant. Port Angeles Border Patrol agents, an air asset from Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine in Bellingham, along with multiple local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies established a containment zone around the last known location of the suspect. The CBP helicopter and Border Patrol agents on the ground spotted an individual matching the murder suspect in a wooded area. Border Patrol agents subdued and disarmed the subject who had a 9mm pistol and knife in his possession at the time of the arrest. The suspect and weapons were turned over to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

06/04/2012- While patrolling the border, Port Angeles Border Patrol agents encountered an individual west of Pillar Point near Clallam Bay. The agents determined that the individual was a citizen of Mexico who admitted to being illegally present in the United States. The subject was placed under arrest and processed for removal.

06/05/2012- Port Angeles Border Patrol agents received information concerning a subject that had attempted to assault two people with a knife in Port Angeles. Agents discovered a subject that matched the description of the person wanted in connection with the armed assault. The agents notified the Port Angeles Police Department. Port Angeles Police officers and Border Patrol agents contacted the assault suspect and placed him under arrest. The arrestee was taken to the Clallam County Jail and booked for assault.

06/06/2012- Sumas Border Patrol agents encountered two subjects in close proximity to the United States/Canada border east of Sumas, Washington. The subjects were walking south from the United States/Canada international boundary during the hours of darkness. Agents contacted the suspects who were both detained after a brief foot chase. The agents determined that both individuals were citizens of Mexico who admitted to being illegally present in the United States. Both were placed under arrest and processed for removal.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
