Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: August 13 - August 19

(08/19/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 11,621 pounds of marijuana valued at $9,296,200. Agents arrested 19 criminal aliens and 9 gang members. There were 13 rocking incidents.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested six illegal aliens near Ajo, Arizona. One of the illegal aliens placed a distress call to the local sheriff’s office and agents located and rescued the group.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico after he was detained by local law enforcement officers near Coolidge, Arizona.




The subject had a previous conviction for sexual abuse and sexual conduct with a minor in the State of Arizona, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. The subject had a previous conviction for sexual conduct with a minor in the State of Arizona, and had been removed from the United States on multiple occasions.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,516 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,212,800, a 2004 Peterbilt tractor-trailer and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Sarita, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and was referred for a secondary inspection. A scan of the trailer using the Z Backscatter X-ray revealed 95 bundles of marijuana concealed between boxes of mangos.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,583 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,266,400, and a 1995 Ford F-250 near La Casita, Texas. The driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject has an extensive criminal and immigration history including a conviction for domestic violence, possession of a firearm and an arrest for rape in the State of California.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Catarina, Texas. During processing the subject admitted to being a member of the Outlaw motorcycle gang and the Sureno 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a previous conviction for aggravated assault and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador with 28 other illegal aliens near Falfurrias, Texas. Records checks revealed the El Salvadoran alien is a member of Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. During processing the subject admitted to being a Sureno 13 gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history to include convictions for voluntary manslaughter with a weapon, possession/manufacturing/selling of a dangerous weapon in prison, and possession of a controlled substance. He had also been removed from the United States on multiple occasions.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents reported the discovery of a non-border crossing tunnel north of the DeConcini Port of Entry near Nogales, Arizona. During remediation of the tunnel, the construction company discovered a collapsed side tunnel that contained four bundles of marijuana. Agents confirmed that the collapsed tunnel had been previously reported. Agents seized 64 pounds of marijuana valued at $51,040.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,214 pounds of marijuana valued at $971,120, a 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer and arrested two nationals from Mexico at the traffic checkpoint Amado, Arizona. The driver and passenger presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A Z Backscatter X-Ray revealed 75 bundles of marijuana concealed in the load of produce.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member, and records checks revealed that he had been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 647 pounds of marijuana valued at $517,680 and arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico after one of the illegal aliens assaulted an agent with a vehicle near Yuma, Arizona. The subject had deliberately backed his vehicle into an agent's vehicle, striking it on the passenger side. The agent was not injured. The subject became physically combative, but was subdued and arrested.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 120.10 pounds of cocaine valued at $3,843,200 near Eagle Pass, Texas. The narcotics were discovered after agents observed three unknown individuals who had entered the United States illegally loading duffel bags into a 1988 BMW. The unknown individuals saw the agents approach and absconded into Mexico while the BMW was driven away. At the scene, agents discovered a duffel bag near the road which contained 17 bundles of cocaine. Local law enforcement officers later located the BMW. Border Patrol agents and a Border Patrol canine discovered two additional duffel bags near the vehicle which contained 33 bundles of cocaine.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Centro, California. The subject was in need of medical attention when he was discovered, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior order of removal and convictions for robbery and forgery in the State of California. During processing, he also admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureno 13 gang. Records checks revealed he had criminal convictions for shooting at an unoccupied dwelling or vehicle, illegal possession of a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and attempted escape with force. The subject had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents reported that an on-duty agent utilized his Border Patrol vehicle to push a burning vehicle away from gas station pumps near Fabens, Texas. The local fire department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported, nor was there any damage to the government vehicle reported.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 6,564 pounds of marijuana valued at $5,250,800, a 2002 tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint in Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the tractor-trailer. A search of the trailer revealed 506 bundles of marijuana commingled with packaged limes.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador, and an illegal alien from Guatemala near Dulzura, California. During processing, both subjects claimed to be MS-13 gang members. Records checks revealed that the illegal alien from El Salvador had a previous conviction for forgery in the State of Georgia, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a previous conviction for aggravated sexual assault on a child and assault causing bodily injury in the State of Texas. The subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject has a previous conviction for sexual battery in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Federal law enforcement officers notified agents that the subject had an outstanding warrant for kidnapping in Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested 11 illegal aliens near Sells, Arizona. The aliens claimed they were robbed by three armed bandits in the United States. There were no injuries reported.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and seized 33 pounds of marijuana valued at $26,360 near Nogales, Arizona. The subject became combative during the arrest and a struggle ensued. He was arrested without further incident and no injuries were reported. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and was previously removed from the United States.
