Yuma Border patrol release number of illegal border crosser apprehensions and drug seizures for 2012

Yuma, AZ -- Yuma Border Patrol Sector says they have maintained a high level of success this year for drug apprehensions in addition to the number of illegal border crosser's caught be Border Patrol agents
.
According to the Yuma Sector Border Patrol Sector, agents apprehended more than 5,800 illegal immigrants along the 126-mile stretch of U.S.-Mexico border they patrol. According to the report, that represents a 43-year low and an 18 percent reduction from the 2010 Fiscal Year.

In addition, Yuma Border Patrol say they saw a decrease in the amount of drugs seized along the border.

Authorities say marijuana is still the most common drug found, with more than 30,000 pounds seized in the 2011 Fiscal Year. According to the agency, that represents a 16percent drop from last year.

The agency attributes the results to the dedication of its agents, enhanced training, and significant investments in technology, tactical infrastructure, and partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.
