U.S. and Mexico agree to work together on border security

U.S. and Mexico agree to work together on border security

    Posted 4 m ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. and Mexico formalized an agreement Monday to work together to secure legal travel and trade across the countries' shared border.

The agreement is outlined in a letter of intent signed by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Mexico's Finance Minister Agustin Carstens.

It expands a 2007 agreement and formalizes plans announced earlier this year to search vehicles at border crossings for bulk weapons and cash being smuggled from the U.S. into Mexico where more than 10,800 people have been killed by drug violence since December 2006.

Napolitano said the cooperation will include sharing information such as data about stolen cars.

Officials have said many of the weapons used in cartel violence in Mexico have come from the U.S.

Both countries are responsible for what goes into Mexico from the U.S., Napolitano said Monday at a news conference. "Our view is that we can either point fingers at each other, or we can work together," she said.

Officials said the agreement will improve communication and strengthen coordination on border enforcement. For instance, the U.S. will train Mexican customs agents and dogs and use more technology along the border.

"The more we work together, the better the service and security we provide to our peoples and economies," Carstens said in a statement.

The agreement is part of the U.S.-Mexico effort to curb drug and weapons trafficking and crack down on smuggling cartels. Mexico has deployed more than 45,000 soldiers across the country to fight the heavily armed cartels.

And who does Janet think is responsible for what goes into the U.S. from Mexico?

Perfect reasons to further "integrate" the governments of the U.S. and Mexico, and, with it, the corruption endemic throughout Mexican society and government.

I hope this cuts two ways instead of just protecting Mexico from American guns.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

They are using the current violent drug cartel wars and ILLEGAL drugs and weapons smuggling across our mutual border to sign a bi-lateral agreement "to secure LEGAL travel and trade across the countries' shared border"?! The title of the "SPP Agreement" between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada is the "Security and Prosperity Partnership". Throughout his presidential campaign, John McCain often used the terms "security and prosperity". Canadian PM Stephen Harper speaks often about "deeper 'integration' of our governments". I don't know if these government officials of either party or country (beside brave President Calderon of Mexico) have any real interest in trying to stop the illegal trafficing in drugs, humans, and weapons across international borders; it appears they are using this as a "reason" to 'further integrate' our government agencies with Mexico's to promote "travel and trade" ("the free flow of persons, goods, and services") on behalf of business interests.

Again you can bet Americans Pay, this is a joke, more smoke screens..and it does not even talk about illegal immigration along the 2000 mile border, only ports of entry.

And this limitless entry to the United States is getting pathetic, what happen to limits on visa's?
