Beware Minutemen, WA Activists Warn

VANCOUVER(CKNWAM980) - An activist group from Washington State is warning Canadians against the "Minuteman" Border Patrol Project.
The Minutemen set up "border checkpoints" earlier this year at various locations along the Canada-US border, claiming to be watching for people attempting to enter the US illegally. They took down their checkpoints last month, but plan to be back in the spring.

Rosalinda Guillen with the Coalition for Professional Law and Border Enforcement says if the Minutemen come back to their posts, immigrant populations on both sides of the border will have a lot to fear.

"(They are) very sophisticated, very well funded," she says. "At this moment, very successful."

Prof. Lawrence Estrada at the University of Washington says the Minutemen are just the tip of the iceberg. "They are part of a much larger movement in the United States."
