The slayings of a husband, his wife and their 8-year-old daughter at a West Side home on Sunday were not random acts, police said. Rather, the victims were targeted.
The couple's 17-year-old son found the bodies shortly after 7:30 p.m. when he went to the home, in the 1800 block of North Camino Claveles, near West Speedway and North Greasewood Road, to check on them, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. The son had been calling them for several hours and was unable to get a response.
He ran to a neighbor's home, and the neighbor called police.
Francisco Javier Tanori-Marin, 44; his wife, Raphaela Pereda-Felix, 40; and their daughter, Tania Guadalupe Tanori-Pereda, were the only occupants of the home, Pacheco said. The teenage son did not live there, but he would come and stay from time to time.
Tania was going to be in the third grade at Brichta Elementary School in the fall, according to the Tucson Unified School District.
The family, who were Mexican nationals, lived in a quiet, rural area filled with cacti and large homes on large lots. Neighbors who spoke with the Star said they did not know the family and hadn't heard or seen anything suspicious at the residence over the weekend. Police would not release the cause of death for any of the victims, nor would they discuss a motive.
Pacheco would not say if there were any signs of forced entry or elaborate on why the home was targeted.
No arrests had been made, and anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
