A report on recreation, a proposal on red light cameras and one citizen's concerns about illegal immigrants topped the agenda at Monday's City Council Meeting. The council also heard from DiAnna Stanich, the chairperson for "We the People of America." Stanich gave a presentation outlining some of the major issues America is facing with illegal immigrants. She told the council more than 41% of unemployment checks and 43% of food stamps currently go to illegals. "I am asking everyone to open their eyes to this problem," she said, "There is going to come a point when people will realize illegals have more rights than we do." Stanich urged the council members to stop hiring and providing housing to illegal immigrants. She encouraged them to give consideration to a federal program called 287-G. The program operates through Homeland Security. It trains local law enforcement on how to identify illegal immigrants more effectively. It also gives law enforcement officers the right to detain anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant. State Senator Dewayne Bunch attended the meeting on Monday. Council members invited him to the meeting to explain their concerns about two tax issues. During the state's budget crisis, the state legislature increased the local option sales tax on big ticket items. The city council now wants its hands on that money and has asked Senator Bunch to address the matter in Nashville. Also, the council asked Senator Bunch to look into the way the business license tax is processed. Currently, both the county and the city collect that tax for the state. The county gets 5% of that tax collected, but the city does not. The city has asked Senator Bunch to help make sure the city gets that same 5%.

Following Senator Bunch, an appearance by Diana Stanich of “We the People of America” featured a lengthy presentation on the high cost of illegal aliens, complete with warnings about the various "diseases" the citizens of Cleveland are at risk for, including “brain worms” and another one that Ms. Stanich said she could only describe "after the meeting if anyone wanted to ask her." It was unclear what Ms. Stanich was asking of the council but she remained for some time following the work session offering fliers to those still present.

The fliers contained statistics and several warnings about the “foreign invasion.” Of note, the flier called for “no more visa ‘overstayers.’" Attached was a two-page list of public office holders including everyone from the U.S. President to Bradley County school board members and included telephone numbers in most cases.

Stanich said she was “inspired” to start her group when one of her daughters, an honor student, was unable to get a job at a local temp agency while outside, "there were lines of Spanish speaking pregnant women who were there to pick up their checks because they could get jobs." Mayor Rowland respectfully thanked Stanich for coming and voicing her frustrations, indicating that other people were frustrated as well. Later, during the break, Rowland said Stanich brought to mind another woman who had e-mailed him for months voicing her outrage toward illegal aliens. "But," said Rowland, "when I invited her to become a volunteer to help solve the problem, I never heard from her again."

Police Chief Wes Snyder told CNN.net he believed Stanich was "speaking from emotion rather than point of law. I believe the nation recognizes what she's describing but what she describes is a national issue and needs to be dealt with at the federal level first."

At the City Council Meeting Monday, the first item on the agenda was a presentation by "We the People," relating to illegal immigration here in Cleveland. The speaker brought 4 large visual boards with pictures, newspaper articles of activities here in Cleveland (MS 13 gang murder, drug and money crimes), newspaper articles from other cities in Tennessee and several from the Nashville area where Sheriff Daron Hall has signed on with Dept. of Homeland Security and ICE to detain, investigate and be involved in the process to deport criminal illegal aliens through the 287 (g).

The boards had stastitics from the FBI, the Gov't Accounting Office, DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and other agencies which track some of the fallout from illegal aliens. The dumbing down of American children's education is the result of allowing children of illegal aliens in schools to receive ESL, ELL, LEP assistance and textbooks further resulting in millions and millions of lost dollars to Tennesse children, already at the bottom of the totem pole. Class size increases, bilingual help, other factors impact the dollars here in Cleveland. The fact that Tennessee and Cleveland is attracting a huge surge of illegal aliens and their skyrocketing numbers of babies and children is greatly impacting our schools, neighborhoods, crime, identity theft and all of this is being paid for courtesy of you and me.

The speaker went on to mention diseases that illegal aliens are carrying and the contact with food and ease of spread of these diseases when working in restaurants, going to school with other children, or just being in the area of other people.

The BASIC PILOT program or SAVE was mentioned to dispel the excuse of "Well, I looked at their social security number." This government program is FREE through social security to verify name and number. The system is not perfect, but it is one step further to assure you are hiring legally.

It was made clear that while we have to prove who we are through social security numbers, drivers licenses, photo id's and other forms of identity to work, do business, go to school, get medical help, these illegal aliens are getting a free pass without documentation or just a ITIN number from the IRS or PIN number for their illegal alien children and so called "anchor babies" to crush, overburden, and destroy the educational system here in Cleveland and Tennessee.

The speaker wanted the Council to know about the 287 (g) and for the police department to partner with DHS.

The mayor thanked the speaker. Flyers were passed among the council members and the Police Chief was quoted as saying that the speaker was talking from emotion and passed it off as a federal issue. Maybe he should meet Sheriff Hall in Nashville and discuss that with him or the many other local law enforcement agencies that are rapidly signing up to have the 287.

Murder, gangs, rape, identity theft, drunk driving, and other criminal activity should be areas of concern to the Police Chief. Overcrowding, school impact, depressed wages, disease, crime should be of concern to the mayor and the city council members. All of these issues should be of concern to all of us. The burned body murder in this area by the MS 13 gang, which is considered the most dangerous gang in America according to the FBI is an example of the illegal alien gang following.
