There is a new gang showing up in Florida. They are called Universal Zulu Nation and came from New York. It is suppose to be non violent. What is interesting is that most people who were in it in New York and many who joined in Florida are Hispanic according to the complete story in today's newspaper. I posted all that was on line.

What is a gang?

Posted June 3 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is a gang?

"Criminal street gang" means a formal or informal ongoing organization, association, or group that has as one of its primary activities the commission of criminal or delinquent acts, and that consists of three or more persons who have a common name or common identifying signs, colors, or symbols and have two or more members who, individually or collectively, engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal street gang activity.

Florida Statutes, 874.03.

"A gang is a family, it's an organization, it's the people who protect you. That's what being in a gang is all about. ... It doesn't always have to be criminal."

Daniel Zelaya,

Universal Zulu Nation

"The Zulus wear colors, they have signs. ... But I don't know of any crimes they've committed down here, and that's what makes a gang that we're concerned with. Being a gang alone, wearing colors, dressing like a gang member - that's not against the law. That's freedom of speech. ... Now, when I hear they may have members coming down from New York to solve problems, organize with them, then I get a bit concerned."

Detective Brian Hermanson,

Lake Worth Police Department
