    More evidence that open borders and amnesties has always been republican policy as well as democrats policy. I thought so when Bush was such an advocate, if he wasn't assured of party support, it;s hard to see being bold enough to go it alone.

    We desperately need a gov't that does not consist of this two party system!!

    Bush wasn't assured party support on amnesty, that's why his attempts failed miserably.

    I think it was public response and public pressure that caused Bush to lose his amnesty quest, much more so that party standards. I could not generate that response against the '86 amnesty.
