WI: Ex-DMV Worker Indicted for Making Fake License's for Ill

Ex-DMV Worker Indicted for Making Fake License's for Illegals
Posted Friday February 11, 2011 18 hours, 18 minutes ago

MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - A former state transportation employee is one of six people indicted by a federal grand jury in Madison, for producing false driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants.

Prosecutors said 36-year-old Khue Xiong used his job at a state motor vehicle office in Stevens Point to make about 70 fake licenses from late 2009 through the middle of last year.

Officials said the other 5 people in the scheme had found people to buy the fake licenses, and collected money from them. The suspects allegedly kept some of the cash for themselves, and gave some of it to Xiong.

Think come 2013 its time to mandate new IDs in every state with a new set of federally set guidelines for security along with mandating these ID's are for citizens only and have a seperate ID for legal immigrants (for instance a marker in a corner differentiating between citizen or green card holder).

Then have a national and state ID held databases with basic bio information on each ID accessible by police and federal social agencies and such.

I think the states need to step up and handle their own licenses. I'm against involving the feds in any more states rights activities, because the feds could come up and mandate we give anyone a driver's license who wants one since they could then dictate who drives on federal highways. We need to tolerate the diversity of state issued drivers iicenses, in my opinion, to protect states rights to control who drives in their states, subject of course to US immigration law.

I can see your point Judy also. Problem is when its a national security issue and a few states right now can't be trusted with the issue. Its just like Cal. briefly looked at the idea of granting citizenship through the state when the fight against the misuse of the 14th came out. They quickly shut that part up but if they could have they would have. Issue though is what one state does effects all the other states. If one state has a security breach all states do.

Like they say "what happens in vegas stays in vegas".... but not true when its a national security issue.

This is why I like the idea of states issueing ID's but on set federal guidelines for security protocols only. This doesn't mean uncle sam is giving everyone ID's but stating the protocols in the ID to make it hard to duplicate. Its the security measures such as water marks and other special marks and checks same sorts as we have in the US Dollar. It it as hard as possible for them to be able to copy.

Now some states have barcodes on the ID, some have watermarks underneath, others have refractive symbols and so on, a few though are easy enough one could make them on their home computer and a decent printer fooling all the the highly trained. Also such needs to be carried for both state ID and DL's.

So just a set of standards, not regulations
