Eleven illegal immigrants have been arrested after a traffic stop, and two are recovering from hypothermia after evading police in the cold.

The stop happened Wednesday evening near Interstate 80 interchange at Minden.

The Nebraska State Patrol officer who pulled the van over determined the men were illegal immigrants, but the men fled before he could arrest them.

Seven of the men were captured four hours after the original stop and two more men were located overnight.

The last two men were caught Thursday morning, 14 hours after the original traffic stop. They were taken to a Grand Island hospital.

The Nebraska State Patrol arrests eleven people believed to be undocumented aliens.

According to Deb Collins with the State Patrol, a state trooper made a routine traffic stop on a westbound 1999 Toyota mini-van with California license plates around five o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

Collins said inside the van the trooper located 11 men, all Spanish-speaking undocumented aliens.

The trooper returned to his patrol car to contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement, at which time all 11 men fled into a wooden area south of Interstate-80 along the Platte River.

That's when the search for the 11 subjects began.

The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted in its efforts by the Minden
Police Department, Kearney County Sheriff's Office, Minden Volunteer Fire Department, Buffalo County Sheriff's Office, Kearney Police Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
