    The opening of the United States Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, states as follows:

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed;
    Ramos takes our founding fathers "all men are created equal" to try and sell the idea that every one living in America should have citizens right. It misapplies our Declaration of Independence to strip us of our distinct rights.

    I agree. And, in the same way, the original purpose of the Statue of Liberty as envisioned by its French donors, was to inspire those who viewed it on our shores to transport this concept (or, "the lamp") of human liberty back to their own native country (ies) and hopefully establish it there. Apart from that poem affixed to its base, the concept of the statue itself never was intended to suggest that it was necessary to immigrate physically and permanently to the United States in order to "ensure these liberties" to oneself and ones descendants.
