Here is more information from CBN.

CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas and are in custody. The five men were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.

The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.

A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the "Fort Jackson Five" may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.

Coming as it does on the heels of November's Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.

Stay tuned to this blog for more details.

    Army Investigating Poisoned Food Plot

    February 18, 2010 - 6:35 PM | by: Justin Fishel

Fox News has learned that the Army is investigating allegations that five individuals attempted to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army's Criminal Investigation Division, told Fox's Catherine Herridge that these are still just allegations, and so far "there is no credible information to support them". Nevertheless, an investigation is ongoing Grey said.

Two sources at Fort Jackson revealed that the five accused individuals were detained in December, and all were enrolled in an Arabic translation training program, referred to in the Army as "Lima 09". "Each of them uses Arabic as his first language", one source told Fox.

Wow! Check it out! Fox News refused to call them Muslims! Did this story even run on Fox News or just on their blog?

That's scary stuff. They are messing with the wrong folks. Anybody here ever mess with an American G.I.? It's not the smartest thing to do. They should have Muslims do double duty as food testers.

It actually ran on FOX News earlier today. Catherine Herridge reported it. She said Arabs may be involved in the attempts to possibly poison those at Fort Jackson.

Here is a video that ran later: It worked and now it won't work for me.?? Weird.

Army Investigates 5 Soldiers Over Alleged Food Poisoning at S.C. Base

    Friday, February 19, 2010

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Army has been investigating five soldiers at its largest training base since December over allegations that soldiers' food may have been poisoned, but officials said Friday no one was ever in any danger.

While an army spokesman at the Pentagon said the probe involved allegations of poisoning in the installation's food service, a spokesman for Fort Jackson in South Carolina would say only that the investigation involves five soldiers and their "potential verbal threats against fellow soldiers."

"While the investigation continues, there is currently no credible evidence to substantiate the allegations ... At no time was there any danger to the Fort Jackson community," spokeswoman Julia Simpkins said.

Fort Jackson is the Army's largest training installation, where more than 50,000 men and women go through about 10 weeks of basic training.

Its food service includes 13 dining halls that serve about 40,000 hot meals daily.

On Thursday, the Army confirmed that the investigation began in December and was ongoing.

Army Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said the allegations involved soldiers' food being poisoned. He said no credible information to support those allegations has been found.

Garver, based at the Pentagon, said he could not release any specifics of the investigation by the Army's Criminal Investigative Service and that he was not aware that any arrests had been made.

Besides training most entry-level soldiers, Fort Jackson is host to a myriad of schools, such as the military's center for all the Air Force, Navy and Army chaplains and its school for drill sergeants.

From Erick Stakelbeck's blog on Christian Broadcast Network (CBN)

    CBN News Terrorism Analyst

    Fort Jackson: The Latest

This morning, I spoke to Army CID spokesman Christopher Gray and learned more details about a possible poisoning plot that I first reported here yesterday after CBN confirmed with Patrick Jones of Fort Jackson's Public Affairs Office and a reliable source with intimate knowledge of the investigation. Here is the latest on what we do know.

According to Gray, the Army is investigating allegations that a group of soldiers from the 09 Lima program (more on that later in this post) at Fort Jackson--which is based in South Carolina--had talked about poisoning food in the base's mess hall. The men were questioned about two months ago, around Christmas. Gray said that to protect the integrity of the investigation, he could not comment further. He stressed that the investigation is "open and continuing."

CBN News also spoke to a Department of Homeland Security official with knowledge of the investigation who wished to remain anonymous. The official confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and said that someone in the Lima 09 program overheard five Muslim colleagues talking about poisoning food at the base. The person then reported the men, who were brought in for questioning.

The DHS official stressed that after the terrorist massacre at Fort Hood, the Army is taking a zero tolerance policy towards any potential threatening statements and is now extremely sensitive about any allegations in that regard.

Terrorism expert Patrick Poole, an anti-terrorism consultant for the U.S. military and law enforcement, told CBN News that "if this incident had become public in late December while the military was still working on the Ft. Hood report it would have no doubt been catastrophic. What exactly happened at Ft. Jackson and why is this only coming out now? That's a question that Congress should be asking. "

"As noted in the Washington Times last month," Poole continued. "My colleagues and I have been warning of jihadist threats - both external and internal - for several years. The Pentagon has entirely ignored us and the Ft. Hood report released last month is evidence of the culture of willful blindness that wants to pretend this threat doesn't exist. Regardless of how the Ft. Jackson incident is resolved, it demonstrates that this threat is not going away."

I spoke today to Army spokesman Christopher Garver, who said the five men are not currently in custody. He was unclear whether the men who were questioned were U.S.citizens. And that brings us to another interesting wrinkle to this story.

According to my colleague, CBN Military Correspondent Chuck Holton, the 09 Lima program, which these men are a part of:

...is specifically geared towards non-US citizens who bring to the table one very in-demand skill - the ability to speak fluent Arabic, Dari, Pashto, or some other needed language. But these recruits also have a handicap - their grasp of the English language is not sufficient to allow them to make it through basic training. So the 09 Lima program puts them through a sort of pre-basic basic, where they learn American culture, Army culture and work on their English language skills. Once they finish the course, they are then able to enter normal basic training. It' is a very small program, with something less than forty recruits in each class.

    Holton continues:

Here's the interesting part. According to Lt. Col. Frank Demith, these recruits are offered an "expedited citizenship program, once they serve one day of honorable active duty."

Military service has always been a way for non-citizen US residents to obtain citizenship, and thousands have performed honorably in service to our country before it actually became their country.

Though the Army must certainly have a thorough vetting process in place to try and avoid a scenario like that described by Erick Stakelbeck's recent blog, in the case of the 09 Lima program, the ability to receive "expedited American citizenship" must present a tempting opportunity for jihadi extremists with ulterior motives.

This is relevant not only because of the Fort Hood case, but because in the last month, there was an incident (see here and here) of an interpreter in Afghanistan murdering U.S. troops.

Stay tuned to this blog for more details as they unfold.

Fox is reporting that the FBI is not actively investigating this. It does bring into question why we allow such easy ways for people to possibly do us harm, and then there is the reward of United States citizenship.

Very few media outlets have mentioned this.

US Rep: No plot to poison food at SC Army base

    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- An Army probe into allegations of verbal threats involving a base's food supply has revealed that none of the five soldiers detained was involved in any plot to poison food at the base, a congressman said Sunday.

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., said Sunday information he received as a member of the House Armed Services Committee showed there was no plot. The five Muslim soldiers who were connected to a translator training program had been detained in December while the Army investigated.

"The investigation revealed that there was not an effort to poison food," Wilson said. The probe also showed the men had not been disloyal.

Four of the soldiers were discharged from the Army for petty crimes, Wilson said, and the fifth was returned to his National Guard unit in Virginia. None of the soldiers has been identified.

U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesman Chris Grey said Sunday that the base's food was never in danger, and the investigation didn't turn up any credible information to support the allegations.

An investigation continues into other possible crimes relating to information found on their laptops, Wilson said. The laptops were turned over to the FBI for analysis.

Neither Grey nor Wilson would elaborate on the ongoing investigation.

Fort Jackson, near Columbia, puts more than 50,000 soldiers annually through basic and advanced instruction, serving about 40,000 hot meals daily at 13 dining halls.

Ya' know, during WWI, my great-greatgrampa who was from the old country was not allowed anywhere near anything that was considered part of the infrastructure of the country unless he was wearing his badge that was issued. Even though he was a proper legal immigrant, he was from East Prussia, and other great-greatgrampa and gramma even though their last name was Chudek which is Czech, didn't matter because the boundaries of Europe made them Austro-Hungarians, and even my greatgrampa who came from the Ukraine, his papers said he was also Austro-Hungarian, and the government kept tight tabs on them, even though they called themselves Americans, they were "profiled" by the government, and for what at the time was considered good reason. They were subjects from countries that were combatants with the united States of America.
