28 Cuban refugees who landed on Upper Captiva to stay in country

Local law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for suspects linked to a human smuggling operation, which on Monday morning brought 28 Cuban nationals to Upper Captiva Island.

The refugees included 14 adult men, 11 adult women, a juvenile girl and two juvenile boys. Only one refugee needed medical treatment. An adult man had high blood pressure and was transported to the Coast Guard infirmary.

A possible refueling vessel is being sought, said Lazaro Guzman, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol supervisory agent.
