US Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: October 8 - October 14

(10/15/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 4,112 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested 13 criminal aliens and 7 gang members. There were 7 rocking incidents.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – A Border Patrol agent encountered an unattended 3-year-old child wandering the streets near Brownsville, Texas. The child was distraught and was unable to communicate his place of residence. After an extensive search, the child was able to recognize his home and was reunited with his mother.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two United States Citizens (USCs), seized $98,000 in United States currency, and a small amount




of marijuana at the traffic checkpoint near Calexico, California. The subjects presented themselves for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A search revealed the currency and the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual battery in the State of North Carolina and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for attempted rape of a child and sexual abuse of a child. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for attempted murder in the State of Utah, and had been previously removed from the United States. He was also the subject of an outstanding Federal warrant for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Columbus, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for indecent liberties with a child between 14 and 16, and indecent liberties with a child under 14 in the State of Kansas. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized $1,599,001 in United States currency, after responding to a report of suspicious activity near the Rio Grande River in Laredo, Texas. Agents observed multiple subjects retrieving bags from the trunk of a vehicle. When the subjects saw agents, they immediately placed the bags back in the vehicle and absconded toward the river. The driver then drove his vehicle toward the river and attempted to abscond to Mexico, but was arrested by agents.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an abandoned 9mm Beretta handgun with a tactical holster, a loaded Olympic Arms AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, and five magazines near the Rio Grande River in Pharr, Texas. After hearing gunshots near the river, agents responded to the area and discovered the weapons and accessories.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Topowa, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child and had also been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an INTERPOL record, was a Latin Kings gang member leader in Richmond, Virginia, and was an aggravated felon who had been previously removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureno 13 gang member. Records checks revealed that he had also been previously removed from the United States.


New Orleans Sector – Border Patrol agents assisted civilian railroad law enforcement officials in the arrest of a national from Ghana near New Orleans, Louisiana. Officers discovered eight pounds of marijuana concealed in the subject’s carry-on bag. Record checks revealed the subject had previously been ordered deported from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 in the State of California and an arrest warrant in the State of California. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Willcox, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tombstone, Arizona. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Sureno 13 gang, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents assisted local law enforcement officials regarding an assault near Batesville, Texas. When agents arrived, they discovered the body of a deceased USC.


Tucson Sector – An illegal alien from Mexico assaulted an agent near Lukeville, Arizona. Agents were attempting to arrest the subject when he became combative and struck an agent. The subject was subdued and arrested, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested three illegal aliens from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. During processing, the aliens claimed they were robbed by six armed subjects in the United States. The case was referred to other Federal and local law enforcement agencies.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. The subject was in possession of methamphetamines, marijuana, an unloaded Sterling .22 pistol and a loaded magazine.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and two illegal aliens from Mexico near Van Horn, Texas. The USC smuggled the aliens while on horseback and armed with a loaded rifle and a knife. Records checks revealed the USC had an extensive criminal history, to include prior felony conviction for carrying a concealed weapon in the State of Michigan.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Big Fields, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 in the State of California. He had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member. Records checks revealed he had extensive criminal and immigration histories.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,516 pounds of marijuana and recovered a reportedly stolen 2009 Chevrolet truck near Arivaca, Arizona. Agents responded to suspicious activity in the area, and discovered an abandoned vehicle in a ditch. A search revealed 70 bundles of marijuana inside the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tombstone, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the East Side Santa Barbara gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC near Dateland, Arizona. Agents also detained a passenger, seized a .32-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver, small amounts of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested five subjects and seized 286 pounds of marijuana near Hidalgo, Texas. One of the subjects actively resisted arrest and an agent deployed his collapsible steel baton to subdue him.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,849 pounds of marijuana and a 1997 Chevrolet truck near La Casita, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle illegally cross the international border and successfully deployed a Controlled Tire Deflation Device. The driver abandoned the vehicle and absconded. The marijuana was found in the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Three Points, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for unlawful sexual intercourse in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.
