US-Mex Border, a Drug Trafficking Op Center
US-Mex Border, a Drug Trafficking Op Center
Mexico, Dec 6 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's Attorney General's Office (PGR) defines the border between the Mexican state of Tamaulipas and the United States as the center of operations for the Gulf drug cartel and Los Zetas group, PGR revealed on Thursday.
"The area's increase of violence in the last few years is linked to drug traffic in Tamaulipas and stems from bloody confrontations between these drug trafficking networks and their enemies from Sinaloa," PGR told journalists.
For this reason over 500 Mexican Army troops arrived in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas yesterday to support the military operation against organized crime in the border area.
A total of 70 Hummer units, armored personnel carriers and trucks arrived to the said states at the request of Tamaulipas Gov. Eugenio Hernandez, who previously urged the Federation to intensify the struggle to curb extreme aggression.
At least 1,750 people were killed along the 211-mile Tamaulipas-Texas between 2000 and 2006.
