Latino group rallies against immigration bill

FAIRMONT CITY, Ill. Advocate groups for Hispanics in Southern Illinois are rallying against an immigration reform bill in the U-S House.

Legislation sponsored by Republican James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin would for the first time make it a felony for illegal immigrants to live in the United States.

Members of a group called Latino Rountable rallied yesterday in Fairmont City, a heavily Hispanic village in St. Clair County. The group says the bill won't curtail illegal immigration _ it'll just create more anxiety among illegals already living in the U-S.

Supporters say the bill is an important step toward sealing U-S borders.

Southern Illinois' two congressmen _ Democrat Jerry Costello and Republican John Shimkus _ aren't saying how they'll vote on the bill.

If illegals know about that anxiety it will dissuade additional illegals from coming because they will know that there will be less overall reward and a lower chance of any reward for breaking the laws.

I'm not too concerned about the ones already here experiencing anxiety anyway. They certainly have been creating enough anxiety for many of us.

If a group of Americans who were here as visitors and permanent residents were to hold a similar rally in Mexico the whole of them would be arrested and expelled.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

"Raise anxiety among illegals already here?"

    I support that.
