USD hosts nationally televised immigration meeting

A two-hour town hall meeting on immigration and the emerging impact of the Latino population on American life and politics will be broadcast live Monday from the University of San Diego’s Shiley Theater.

The show will be aired from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on MSNBC. It will be hosted by the news network’s Lawrence O’Donnell with Maria Teresa Kumar, executive director of the Maryland-based advocacy group Voto Latino.

The event will examine Latino voting in the just-completed midterm elections, the impact of Arizona’s immigration law and other issues.

Guests on the program will include actress and activist Rosario Dawson; Telemundo’s Jose Diaz Balart; Alfonso Aguilar, executive director of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles; Celina Lake, a Democratic strategist and pollster; and David Shirt, director of the Trans-Border Institute at USD.

The event is sold out.
