Washington • The top candidates for Utah’s open Senate seat sound fairly similar when they start talking about immigration — that is, until they discuss what should happen to the millions of people now in the country illegally.

Simply put, Democrat Sam Granato sees a place in this nation for the millions of undocumented workers among us, while Republican Mike Lee wants each one to return to their homelands and apply through existing legal channels.

One of these men stand to become Utah’s next senator, replacing Republican Bob Bennett, who lost his bid for a fourth term. Early polls and decades of recent political history give a decisive edge to Lee, but Granato says he is fighting for independent and disaffected GOP voters, who support a more moderate stance.

The Democrat, who owns three Italian restaurants and shops in Utah
Maybe someone should inspect who's in the kitchens of his restaurants. If we followed his ideas, the U.S. would turn into a third world country - fast!

Exactly, legalalien. Usually those who advocate legalizing those already here have ties to some illegals - via family or friends.

By the way, I love your avatar. I like cats and their cool expressions... =) as you can tell by my avatar....

One of the arguments I've heard about requiring proof of legality is that it would hurt small business and target/profile citizens. So how does he really know they were legal? Did he ask for papers; did he target citizens unfairly? If he can manage with legals (assuming true), why does he believe others can't? How disingenuous.

    You Can NOT

You Can NOT reward them ever again with any kind of amnesty. It only GUARANTEES a push for the next amnesty. In order to stop illegal immigration you must say "NO" and take away all incentives, INCLUDING Birthright Citizenship

All employers who hire illegals can claim they don't hire illegals.

They're not required to verify citizenship or document authenticity. 99.9% of them know that if they get audited, they simply go to their files and tell authorities: "Here's what the employee submitted to us. A social security number and proof of identity. Am I supposed to know whether these documents are authentic or not?" And that's how the get away with hiring illegals.
