A hit-and-run traffic accident and subsequent chase in Ogden led to the arrests of three men and the seizure of $250,000 worth of heroin.

The three men, all believed to be in the country illegally, remained in the Weber County jail on Wednesday on suspicion of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, said Lt. Darin Park of the Weber Morgan Narcotics Strike Force.

They were also being held on Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrants, he said.

The arrests came after a 12:20 p.m. Monday crash, in which the men, who were riding in a Ford Focus, allegedly ran a red light and collided with another car near 1900 West and Hinckley Drive. The Focus sped away from the scene, and the second driver called police.

Ogden police soon located the vehicle, pulled it over and took the three — two age 24 and one 36 — into custody.

They weren’t armed and didn’t resist arrest, Park said.

Park said that a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded 14 ounces of heroin hidden inside the car’s air-filter housing.
