Restaurants, group spend big money on lobbyists in 2007
Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Restaurant Association, which represents close to 1 million restaurant and foodservice outlets, spent nearly $2.3 million in 2007 to lobby the federal government on immigration reform, health care reform, food safety and various other restaurant industry issues.

The trade group spent almost $1.4 million to lobby on those issues and more in the second half of 2007, and $960,000 to lobby on largely the same issues in the first half of 2007.

In addition to Congress, the association lobbied the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Education, the Department of Commerce, the Federal Trade Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Labor, the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service.

Lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches, under a federal law enacted in 1995.
