Traffic Stop Leads to Multiple Identifications

On Sunday, April 18 at approximately 5:33p.m., a Mono County Deputy conducted a traffic stop in Walker Canyon on a vehicle for several minor traffic violations. The Deputy contacted the driver of the vehicle, identified as Ms. Verenisse Vasquez-Cancino age 27, a resident of Santa Ana, Calif. and the passenger Alfonso Guzman age 19, a resident of Orange Calif.

During the subsequent investigation, the Deputy determined that Vasquez-Cancino had no personal identification in her name, but had in her possession a credit card and other forms of identification or documents in names other than her own. Due to the belief that Vasquez-Cancino could be a false name, given the other items she was in possession of, the Deputy asked her to respond to the Bridgeport Sheriff Station to be positively identified (Cal-ID), to which she agreed.

Positive identification (fingerprints) did in fact confirm that she was indeed who she said she was, Vasquez-Cancino was released with only a citation for being an unlicensed driver.

In the days following the initial traffic stop, follow-up was conducted with the DMV Law Enforcement Record Division, Orange County Register of Birth Records, Fountain Valley Police Department, U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service, a resident in Redwood City and a credit card investigative company.

The information gathered from the follow-up, along with statements from the initial contact with Vasquez-Cancino, makes it appear that she obtained various forms of identification such as a California driver’s license, a social security card, a U.S. passport and various credit cards in names other than her own.

Due to this new information, Vasquez-Cancino could be facing charges ranging from perjury to false impersonation of another, either within the Mono County Court system or in other various County’s jurisdictions. – Mono County Sheriff’s Dept. Press Release

So umm... this person was arrested and found to be who they said they were carrying around credit cards in other names... yet they were released on just being with an unliscensed driver? Shouldn't they have made some attempt to hold the person for 48 hours while contacting the said owners of those credit cards and other forms of ID?

As they say it was follow up work but that they released the individual I'm assuming the person is in the wind out there and not behind bars. Great law enforcement here. They had easy just cause for a 48 hour hold.

Come on....We're talking about la raza here! Holding them even when there is probable cause to do so would be a violation of their "civil rights, discriminatory and inhumane!" Isn't that what they tell us on a daily basis!

You cannot treat these people like that; you'll have la raza, lulac, maldef, the aclu and probably a dozen other hispanic supremacy groups on your case!

The law is applied differently if you're a member of la raza. You or I would still be sitting in jail under the same circumstances. But not la raza!
