SALT LAKE CITY - A specially trained arm of the attorney's general's office called the Secure Strike Force has been in operation for a year to identify and arrest illegal immigrants who commit serious felony offenses. The force has been has opened nearly 170 cases and executed 20 search warrants in 12 months. The six person squad has been raiding "document mills" that produce fake ID cards, social security documents and drivers licenses.

The agents said they have relied heavily on cooperation from members of minority communities and especially Utah's Latino community. Investigators said their job will now be a lot tougher due to the heated rhetoric over immigration and the release of the list of names of supposed illegal immigrants.

"More importantly than our task force, it's sent a chill through that community, makes them a little more reserved in calling us," said Chief Leo Lucey. "Without that cooperation, we wouldn't exist and there would be no cases."
