UTB Border Wall Case in Federal Court Today

UTB Border Wall Case in Federal Court Today

    Updated: March 19, 2008 08:50 AM PDT

The legal showdown between Rio Grande Valley landowners and the federal government over the construction of the border fence continues today.

Both Texas Southmost College and Garco Construction are expected to appear before U.S. District Court Judge Andrew S. Hanen at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.

The federal government sued them and other landowners in order to get access to their property along the Rio Grande.

Federal officials want to survey the land to build a border fence to control illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College President Juliet V. Garcia has refused access to U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials based on concerns of student safety and damage the school's image.

The Wednesday afternoon hearings come after 26 other cases were heard by Judge Hanen in McAllen on Monday.

Action 4 News will continue to follow these and other border wall cases.

Well, I guess Juliet V. Garcia won't be needing any federal funds this year, huh?
