New: Immigration sides
conduct peaceful protests

CRYSTAL LAKE – Two sides of the immigration debate came together peacefully Saturday as about 60 people from several groups conducted demonstrations at McCormick Park.

Members of Minutemen Midwest and the Chicago Minuteman Project, which oppose illegal immigration, conducted a protest in response to a vigil planned by the McHenry County Peace Group, McHenry County Latino Coalition and the Carpentersville Community Alliance.

The groups were separated by yellow police tape and did not meet in the middle. To the north, the Minutemen gathered holding signs stating, “This is not hate, it’s just our lawsâ€
