Herndon raid nets 11 suspected aliens

Federal authorities arrested eleven suspected illegal aliens in Herndon on Monday, Feb. 5.
The arrests took place on the 1200 block of Alabama Drive.
Although those arrested were not the initial targets of the raid, authorities said they were all suspected of being in violation of immigration law and were "collaterally" arrested just the same.
The arrests were part of a countywide operation headed by federal officers from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (BICE),a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The operation was called "Operation Quick Draw."
BICE agent Bill Reid, who headed the operation, told the Times that the majority of the 35 total suspects rounded up during the operation were apprehended in Herndon, Arlington and Fairfax.
According to Reid, the operation's targets were 23 convicted felons released from incarceration but still suspected of being in the country illegally. "A litany of charges including burglary, larceny, predators, self-admitted gang members, some drug offenders, stuff like that," he said.
Lieutenant Jerry Keys of the Herndon Police Department, said that HPD officers participated in the arrests.
"ICE did a roll call at the HPD Monday morning," Keys said.
Keys added that four of the operation's targets were thought to be in Herndon, but that attempts to arrest the targeted individuals were unsuccessful.
Instead, according to Keys, at the second suspected location, on Alabama Drive, eleven individuals suspected of being illegal aliens were discovered and the discovery "tied up" officers for the rest of the day.
Keys said the operation continued in Herndon on Tuesday but that none of the original four targets were apprehended.
All 35 suspects are being held at an undisclosed location in Fairfax County.
