Undocumented immigrants in Utah would be required to carry a state-issued permit, learn English and be subject to criminal-background checks, while employers would face financial penalties for hiring those without the permits, under a bill unveiled Tuesday by state Sen. Luz Robles.

The 21-page draft of the Utah Pilot Accountability Permit Program essentially puts the onus on the undocumented immigrants to come forward, register for an “accountability cardâ€

Here we go again on more legislation when it is already against the laws for illegals to be here and to be working. Just carry out the first laws and deport these criminals. End of story and also save on legislation (more wasted) money and move on to other matters.

Do these lunatics think that the IA's will suddenly come out of the shadows to register the fact that they are illegal? Workplace enforcement and deportation are the only solutions.

This woman has no brains in her head at all, she is totally out of touch with reality. She was elected from an area full of illegals, most of whom probably voted illegally to get her in, and she is a representative of the Mexican government. This empty proposal is about as empty as her head.

Ever notice that those who claim we have a broken immigration policy only want to break it more? The problem isn't that we aren't accepting enough legal immigrants, the problem is that we are legitimizing the illegal ones.

The legal system could be improved by moving toward a system allowing immigration based on any skills or labor actually needed and away from chain migration and family re-unification. And, whatever numbers we allow in should be based primarily on our need and an assessment of the overall positives and negatives of that immigration (including environmental impact) rather than just how economically needy a potential immigrant seems to be or how desperately their home country wants to get rid of the burden or how much some political party wants an ethnic oriented vote or some global diversity quota scheme.

But, like I said, these people don't really want to improve or fix the immigration system, they just want to continue to accelerate the damage already being done by their past foibles and their manipulation of the system and of the all too many naive complacent people of this country.

Utah illegals idea of "broken immigration" = no green cards for them because they don't qualify.

It's stupid that people even debate the issue when the truth is so simple: they are in the country illegally. The only thing really broken is their entry into the country to live, work, go to school, use benefits and privileges without permission.

When unemployment benefits run out next month, how is anyone going to justify illegals holding unauthorized jobs while American citizens go without a paycheck? 2011 will be interesting year, that's for sure.
