CBP Seizes Two AK-47 Assault Rifles and Four High-Capacity Magazines in Outbound Enforcement Operation at Brownsville Port of Entry

Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers and Border Patrol agents working outbound enforcement operations at the Gateway International Bridge’s southbound lanes seized two AK-47 assault rifles and four high-capacity magazines hidden within a 1995 Dodge Ram.

On Oct. 14, CBP officers and Border Patrol agents working outbound enforcement operations at the Gateway International Bridge encountered a white Dodge Ram as it attempted to exit the United States to enter Mexico. The driver, identified as a 22-year-old male Mexican citizen and resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico was referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, further inspection by CBP officers and agents resulted in the discovery of two AK-47s and four 30-round magazines hidden within the Dodge.

The driver was taken into custody by CBP officers and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
