Texas Pizza Chain to Accept Pesos
Monday, January 08, 2007
FOX NEWS
It's a slice of heaven for hungry travelers from Mexico.
Customers of Pizza Patrón, a Texas-based chain of pizzerias geared towards the Latino community, will be able to buy their pies for a limited time with pesos as well as dollars.
"We're trying to reach out to our core customer," Antonio Swad, the president of Pizza Patrón Inc., told the Dallas Morning News on Friday.
"We know they come back [from Mexico] and have pesos left over. We want to be a convenient place for them to spend their pesos."

The company will accept pesos in bill form through February at each of its 59 locations, according to the Dallas Morning News, at a set conversion rate of 12 pesos per dollar, slightly higher than the rate of trading.
The program may be extended, the paper reported.
Swad told the paper he is willing to take the heat from those who might be against the program.
"We know the purity of our intention, and we're willing to take the heat when there is heat," he told the Morning News.

I wonder what laws counterfeit pesos, pizza-pesos so to speak, would violate. If it's a currency law, I'd opine the Secret Service will be going back to school. If not the currency laws, perhaps it's not a felony. If that's the case, for really hungry Mexicans, it might be worth a 36 p. slice.

I wonder what would happen if one was to attempt to buy their pizza with Canadian currency? If they refused to accept it at the current exchange rate, would that not be discrimination? Therefore, it seems that they may be setting themselves up for problems, by aiding the illegals that bring their pesos across. Will the illegals begin to expect other businesses to accept their peso, just as they expect medical treatment at taxpayers expense now.

This story is really upsetting people and I was asked about it on the air this morning in Texas.
