70% of 19,000 Illegal Alien Inmates in CA. are Mexicans

Official: No plans to ship Calif inmates to Mexico

    By The Associated Press
    Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 6:05 p.m.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.— California has no plans to ship inmates to prisons in Mexico, despite an off-the-cuff remark this week from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Gordon Hinkle said Tuesday that prison officials have not discussed or studied housing inmates in another country.

He said they will consult with the governor's office after Schwarzenegger made the comments Monday before a gathering of the Sacramento Press Club.

Schwarzenegger said the state could save money by working with the Mexican government to build and operate prisons for some California inmates.

More than 70 percent of the 19,000 illegal immigrants imprisoned in California are from Mexico.

That is ridiculous. Now that we have ICE in the jails in South Florida they are getting deported. If you go on the Sun-Sentinel and look up Broward County under mug shots and you can actually get all the people with immigration holds on them for the last month. It is scary what some of the offenses they committed are. They commit an offense in one county and just move to another and keep reoffending.

Well sure, they obviously don't obey our laws, so what are more broken laws? It would be more cost effective to keep them jailed, rather than release them in the US. They won't be able to reproduce in jail. When they've served their time, they should be deported immediately.

Here's a question, don't you need valid US ID to enter visit prisons? Then how do family members who are also illegal aliens get to "visit"? They should be detained and jailed to await deportation too!

They aren't releasing inmates that have an immigration hold in the state.
By law any inmate with an immigration hold must be turned over to I.C.E. for deportation.
The problem is that the Federal government isn't keeping them from returning.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, a corrections official said Tuesday.

Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Gordon Hinkle said prison officials have not discussed or studied housing inmates in another country. He said they will consult with the governor's office after Schwarzenegger made the comments Monday before a gathering of the Sacramento Press Club.

"We're going to look into what might be feasible, but there are no current proposals," Hinkle said.

Schwarzenegger had said the state could save money by working with the Mexican government to build and operate prisons for some California inmates.

More than 70 percent of the 19,000 illegal immigrants imprisoned in California are from Mexico.

In a money-saving proposal last year, Schwarzenegger considered commuting the sentences of many illegal immigrants so they could be deported. The idea never gained enough support to make it part of the budget deal.

The Republican governor also has pressed the federal government to reimburse the state for housing illegal immigrants who commit crimes in California.

"We understand the governor is looking for creative ways to address the budget issues in this state, and that's what it sounds like he was referring to in his Press Club statements," Hinkle said.
