Fewer Immigration Job Losses in St. Albans

St. Albans, Vermont - April 1, 2009

Immigration jobs are leaving St. Albans, but it's less than was originally planned.

Earlier this month Senator Bernie Sanders said that 200 data entry jobs at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service Center would be moved to a JP Morgan-owned facility in Essex Junction. The news enraged Sanders, because he says the decision to move the jobs was made over a year ago, but employees had to learn about it through job postings. So he sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security asking them to reverse the move.

Now the St. Albans Messenger is reporting that the move has been modified and only 100 positions will be moved to Essex Junction.

Sanders is planning a meeting with workers in St. Albans, on April 11, to discuss the situation.
