JW President Tom Fitton's Statement on DACA

Sep 5, 2017

"I can tell you that Judicial Watch is really pleased today by President Trump’s announcement through his Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he will rescind President Obama’s illegal alien amnesty known as “DACA.” This policy was rejected repeatedly by Congress, and rather than follow the Constitution and the rule of law, President Obama unilaterally granted illegal alien amnesty to 800,000 individuals.

We’re pleased that the administration will put this to a rest within 6 months, and Judicial Watch is pleased to highlight the fact it’s been battling this issue for years. We exposed, for instance, how President Obama’s administration bypassed security background checks in “lean and light procedures” to grant amnesty to these illegal aliens, contrary to their promises to the American public that there would be a thorough vetting.

And so as a result, we can be sure there are many people who have this amnesty who don’t deserve it. And of course, given the fact they are illegal aliens, they should be subject to the rule of law the way anyone else would be. So we’re pleased by this step forward on behalf of the rule of law and a restoration, in part, of the balance, constitutionally, between the executive branch and the legislature." --JW President Tom Fitton
